Each of my iggys have their own set of UVB Iguana Lights 5.0..... There is a set of UVB tubes on both sides of the room since Lucky free roams so he can generally be found sitting in front of his by his window or in front of Little Foots ontop of the Enclosure! Then baby girl has hers in the closet with her!

Hi Folks- I use the Mega-Ray EB set-up at his basking spot (on top of his empty cage, LOL), since Rex is a free-roamer. Here's a picture of the lights. The ballast is next to him because I took the picture to show someone what the ballast looks like. Usually it is on the lower windowsill behind him.

Both of my babies have there own Reptisun 5.0 lights in there cages. I was wandering if anyone has tried the new lights that came out. I want to add them to their cages but not sure they would be any good or not.

I have changed to the MegaRay EB Flood mercury vapor bulbs. I have 2 set up--one for Baby and one for Dragon.
I originally used the Reptisun 5. Then I seen an ad for the PowerSun--claimed to reach 6 feet. I thought that was great and started using that.
Then I got on the GIS message board and some very knowledeable people there were recommending the MegaRay. I called the company and the owner (I thought he was just a salesman) actually answered. He was very enthusiastic about the bulb but he did not make any outrageous claims though--like reaching 6 feet. I asked on the message board if the salespeople at the company was reliable and that was when I found out I had talked to the owner. Every one only had good things to say about him.
So I switched.

I know I should just throw this to reptileuv.com (bob mac) but I thought I'd ask you guys real quick. As you all know my cage is like 18" tall by 18" wide by 48" long. Would an extrenal ballasted bulb from reptileuv work for this cage as long as I didn't put it righ over the driftwood jungle gym? Here is the photo of the cage: As far as I have heard the external ballasted uv bulb doesn't put off heat but to keep levels safe for use you need to have about 12" from the lamp to the reptile. Somone please correect me if I am wrong with any of these assumptions. Tax season is here and I wanna upgrade the UV setup and do it right the first time. *edited to add the newest tank setup

I use the Reptisun 5.0 for my 4 bearded dragons and my 2 turtles. I would love to use the Powersun bulbs but it would make my cage way to hot Steven

www.reptileuv.comThis is the link. You can call them with any questions. They are very reliable in the information they give you. The owner is big in rehabbing iguanas and that is why he developed the lights. Marie

The nice thing about the Mega-Ray EB is that they don't put out much heat. So whatever setup you have you will need the supplemental heat, but at least you won't fry anyone with it either. I've known BobMac for several years now and he really stands behind this new product he's marketing. This is truly an optimum source.
Getting my second MR EB replaced. It stopped working. It will go over the Uro.
No free-roamers here anymore. To many animals that conflict.
Before that I used...and still do...The Reptisun 5.0s. With the UVB meter, I have been able to keep my tubes well past the 6 month mark. I was supposed to change them in April...of 2004.

I just tested the new tube reptisun 10.0 last month. The readings were so bad I'm using it for ambient light only. Just FYI...and powersuns----don't get me started on the garbage that bulb is. Between the crappy way it's made and the bad readings and heavy decay I'm suprised they still sell them at all.

Hey there all, I use the Reptisun 8.0 and all my guys that I've had on it for 5 years or so are doing great. I am sure to change it every 6 months. There color, appetite and health couldn't be better.
I just got one for RZ and for KooKie and they are starting to do wonderfully. Well RZ has had hers since she got here. She is getting beautiful color now. So it is just a matter of time before she gets green.
Since I live in Canada no one sells the mega rays or anything else like that. So this is the only option other than the 5.0 and I've never used them.
Remember that UV light is very important for a reptile!
