Our snakes also came from a person who had heat lamps or something in there and they were covered in burns. All 4 of them. So we nursed them back to health and gave them away to a good snake enthusiest. He has his own snake rooms in his house. He is a rich guy though. Only if we could all be like that!
Thanks Nicole

I must admit to being the local lizard woman at any site I frequent--snakes are a more recent side thing for me due to my daughter's obsession with them. Over at other sites, you'll recognize this guy's screenname....I consider him to be top of the line with any snake info and he's given me permission to quote him: *********************************** Originally Posted by JuliusSqueezer Snakes lay in the sun for the heat, not the UV. Surely as poorly as they are normally kept by most general petstore flunkies, if they NEED UV, by now we would be seeing tons of messed up skeletons. Some snakes do need UV though. Insectavorous snakes such as rough and smooth greensnakes appear to have a higher survival rate when given UV. I think tentacled snakes do too but I'm not 100% sure about those. ************************** There you have it---I guess we are all wrong LOL :-)

Nicole , Thanks for doing the research to clear this matter up. Learning is what it is all about. My father always told me that you can always learn something from each person you come across (sometimes it may be hard to figure out what though LOL). But it is obvious we can learn a lot from your experience and research. Thanks Again Marie

Found this when over at the UVB Meters Group: On Tue Aug 2, 2005 11:45 am, BobMac wrote: So Freddy may not need something as strong as a MegaRay but he may benefit to some exposure to UVB. For those who subscribe to the Meters group groups.yahoo.com/group/UVB_Meter_Owners/message/3945

Hi, Dragon. Fancy running into you here. Quite an informative discussion about UV and MegaRay. We really work hard how to give you the best substitute for the Sun we can, eh? You know, there's been a few debates in here. I'm sure some of those technical terms went over your head too. But I think all of that adds up to the fact the MegaRays are quite good. But you jumped in here a bit early. See, we've been thinking they are good for diurnal lizzards and stuff. Those are lizards, just like you, that are very active in the day and love to bask in the sun. And this is true. But we often lump a bunch of other herps likes snakes and whatnot (even diurnal) into the "No need for UV" group. So, the last bit of discussion isn't really about the MR, but a debate over if a lot more herps need good UV too. Also, as we consider a wider range of UV-users, we must take care not only to give enough to those who need a lot, like you, but also not give too much to those who just need a little bit.

Hello again Dragon Yes, fascinating discussion going on here about the MegaRay and UV needs of other reptiles too. Not every reptile that spends time in the sun will necessarily need the high UV output of a MegaRay to thrive - though a little bit of UVB may help. Though Fed may benefit from a small amount of UVB exposure, we don't want to have a baked snakey.
