Hi Patrick-
Be sure you are taking the reading correctly:
Hold the sensor (located on top of the Solarmeter 6.2)so it is facing directly at the bulb, press the button and hold it. Slowly and slightly rotate the meter back and forth to get the maximum reading, then up and down until you get the maximum. The max from left to right and up and down is the lamps UVB reading. Sometimes, even off a fraction of an inch can cause a low reading.
Also, be sure the lamp has been burning for a good 15 minutes or so to get it to full strength.
Let me know what you find.

Hey Dominick
Ok now in Miss Jr. enclosure I have the bulb straight up and down and I am getting a reading at 8” from the bulb a reading of 120 uW/cm
now on the other one I am getting at 16” a 50 uW/cm reading but that one is angled and I did move it up and down and side to side? but at 8” inches in Quazi’s room the one that is angled I getting a 120 uW/cm do you know what I mean.
So what I am going to do is move the one more straight up and down were I can get a better reading and see what happens. And get back…

Yes that is an American based company. I talked to the owner Bob and they do ship to Canada. They were having the manufacturer in Canada ship them directly froim up there but there has been problems. So they are now just shipping the lamps out themselves.

I can't say enough (and generally I usually get people sick from it) about Macindustries. They have the BEST bulbs and the best heating projectors made today. I guess Dominick is the Dominick I see on the uVB list? If so HI DOMINCK!!

Hi Nicole!
It's a small internet afterall! LOL
Yes this IS the Dominick from UVB Meter Group and ReptileUV. We've corresponded a few times on both sites.
You met my dear friends Dana and Chris on the Caymen trip the last time you went. I was SUPPOSED to be there but life threw in a few monkey wrenches and I never made it.
Look forward to meeting someday!

Ask Chris....Dana was a real sport even though she has to agree with me LOL... I have some photos of them---ask them if I can post them here and I will

Here's a picture of the West Coast pIGnic I attended this time last year. In it you can see me, Dana, Chris, Darry Conner, and her husband Ted, John and Sandy Binns, Roger, Melanie, Sue Solomon and a few other internet friends. The picture was taken by MK, who remains camera shy. LOL I actually stayed with Dana and Chris while visiting CA. We grew very close in a short amount of time. They are VERY cool people. And here's me with my friends and mentors, can you guess who?? LOL

and one for fred the snake What kind of snake is it that needs UVB light exposure? Especially one as strong as Mega Ray? For the Iggy, perfect!

What kind of snake is it that needs UVB light exposure? none--they are all primarly nocturnal.

I think that is not true. Wild Canadian species of snakes love the sun. Fox snake and the garter snake are found outside in the day time. Sleeping at night.
Maybe this isn't true for captive snakes. But our captive boa's, pythons and that stayed awake in the day time and slept at night. We had them in rooms where they could interact with us all the time though. So maybe that made a difference. But we didn't use any UV lighting for them. But to each there own I guess. Hope he finds out for sure that way he's not waisting his money. But at least he'll have a spare then.
Good luck.

basically a light cycle is ok to use but it's basically a well known fact that snakes do not require UVB---and even though some snakes can be found up in daylight hours--most of their activity is at night. Pythons and boas especially are nocturnal---even if you see them up during the day at times-- you can bet the farm they are up when your asleep doing the things that snakes do I personally feel a nocturnal animal like a snake--who does not require UVB to digest it's food can be fried with something as strong as a megaray...or any MVB within a tank or cage.
