Ella "Marie" Poyner was born in Taiwan on January 25, 1963 Her given name at that time was Woo Mon Chue which transilates into "innocent pearl". Woo Mon Chue was adopted in February 1963 by the Poyner family and was re-named "Ella Marie Poyner" Ella was her new grandmothers name. The Poyner family and their new addition moved from Taiwan to National City California. There Marie grew up with her family and on summer vacations they would venture to there grandmothers house in Oregon for the summers. She started her education attending St. Mary's Catholic school until its closing then attending John Otis until she was accepted into Marion Middle School. She graduated there in 1981.
Marie was always furthering her education by attending South Carolina Francis Marion for two years where she became a member of the Phi Thata Kappa International Honor Society, where she graduated with honors. She then moved onto Southern Chula Vista Collage for four more years as a math major. And once more onto San Diego State University from 1994 - 2005. Marie's dream was to be a vetrinarian but she couldn't master the biology courses, but she made up for it helping out so many animals and people through out her life. She finally ventured out on her own in 1995, which in the end of 1996 she moved to her Aunt's in National City to help the aging lady. In which she had an insulated enclosure built for Dragon and Baby to live in the garage she rented off a neighbour near by, because her place just wasn't big enough and she was not willing to give them up. Marie was a great mother to her pets which she refered to as her "kids".
Marie's first introduction to iguana's was with Lady and Sampson, in which they have passed on long ago. Her next iguana's were Baby and Dragon. In wich she was introduced to in 1994 and hasn't stopped loving them over 12 years later. She started reading up on iguana's there care, medicine and anything else she could think of in October 1994. Even though as she became more educated she noticed that everything she was doing wasn't perfect for her girls. So she would adapt to the proper guidlines and give them the best possible life they could have. In October 2004 Marie spotted the new addition to her family, he was named Mr. Iggy and she drove all the way to Malibu California to pick him up. She really didn't like the name Mr. Iggy so she renamed the small handfull HUFF and he is her youngist boy that she was going to do everything right for.
Throughout Marie's life she was always a hard worker, always having a job or bettering her education. She was very helpful and knowledgeable and would do anything to help out iguana's in bad situations. Even buying supplies and having them sent to them. Marie touched a lot of people's hearts and helped out a lot of iguanas on various places she frequented online, even offering her time to run forums and posting anywhere offering knowledgeable help.
Marie made some great friends on her road of life, she decided in 2005 that there was nothing more keeping her in California after her mom's passing on September 24th, 1996. She made some great friends in Cleveland Ohio, USA and decided to move there. Also on the condition of moving the place she went had to have excellent reptile vets, to take care of her aging girls. A friend came from Canada to help her on the long 3 day and night journey to her destination. Her family was doing great after the move and expanded by one juvinile cat also from Canada. Marie named her Miss. Kitty and she wormed her way into Marie's heart very quickly, which she knew had a lot of love to give.
Marie was an avid collector of snow globes and she had a beautiful collection from the San Diego Zoo where she visited often and she was a member of. Marie loved going to the zoo and had many a story from when she was a child, growing up close to someone who worked at the zoo. She recalled seeing baby animals that person's back yard from time to time. Marie also helped out with the Blue Iguana Recovery fund in the Caymen Islands, which she was very happy to do.
Marie is survived by her green children Baby, Dragon and Huff. Also by her cat Miss. Kitty who was also accpted as a loving member of her household family. Marie also had a wonderful human family to consisting of her father Fred Poyner his wife and one great sister named Colleen Quin, 3 Nieces, 3 Great Nepews and 1 Great Neice.
Marie sadly passed away in Cleveland Ohio, USA on Sunday, October 10th, 2006. She has been creamated and sent to her father. Where at a later date will be laid to rest in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
She will be greatly missed by all, we will miss her sharp witt and knowledgeable personality. Rest in Peace, Marie.
