Hi, Well about a week ago my Dragon, a 2 or 3 month old juvenile named Pooka, started slowing down on the amount she was eating. She went from 8 or 9 food items (7 or 8 Crix and a mealworm) to 2 or 3 meal items (2 or 3 Crix) and I do not know why. I took her to the vet for a checkup on an eye problem from last month and he gave her Flagyll (a parasite med) and said she was in good health. Her vet visit was on day 3 of the light eating which was monday, 4 days later and she is still "picking" at her food. I have no idea what it could be. She has not shed in the 5 weeks we have her but I have heard sheds don't affect appetite much. Could she be stressing? If so what woould the warning signs or behaviours look like? Luckily she is still a pretty vorascious drinker. I'm just worried because she will show periods on alertness and activity then stop and be a bit listless for a moment. Anyone have any idea whats up?

Well the best thing is to keep an eye on her... I can only comment on my experience with my iggies... I notice as the weather and season changes that they slow down in the winter time and eat less... The other times for it are right before a shed starts...
Have there been any changes in the routine for her?? I know there is another person with a water dragon on this board maybe they can offer some more insight into causes... I believe Matt had them at one time as well he is very knowledgable in his reptile maybe try sending him a pm and I am sure when he is on here he will get back to you...

It is winter time, and I have adjusted the photoperiod if not the temps to simulate it.... Also, she still has not had a complete shed since I got her 5 weeks ago, should be about time... I guess I just gather info and wait. If things dive any at all contact the vet. If you guys can think of anything else it would be great if you shared. Thanks Elizabeth

Hey Kiley Well I have been Reading During the late fall or early winter, you should reduce the dragons photoperiod from 12 to 14 hours of daylight, down to 10 hours of daylight and 14 hours of darkness. The temperature during the day should be reduced to 75 - 78 F, with a warmer area under an incandescent light that reaches 80-84 F. The night time temperature should be reduced to 68 -74 F. Instead of feeding your dragons everyday or every second day, the feeding schedule should be reduced to once per week. This period of lower temperatures and reduced light should last for approximately two months. See they sometime go in to a hiberation were they will stop eating or slow way down. information Found at www.icomm.ca/dragon/breeding.htm#Hibernationhope this help out a little bet

Good News! I got her smaller crix last night and started gut loading them.. Today on the first try she ate 6 of them! Thats a huge turn around from 3 all day into 6 in one sitting. Hopefully she puts away some additional ones later on. I'm guessing she is either coming outta her funk or else the prey items where too large to properly digest and was makeing her feel bloated and icky.
