Okay, Cheech WAS diagnosed with some resp. infection, and was prescribed Baytril. He still gapes his mouth, but way way way less. I noticed he had some goo in his mouth a little while ago, and just as i thought, it was mouthrot. He has medicine now, but has only been taking it for a few days now. Well, anyway, I have a new problem... I just got home from work today, and took him out to look at his mouth, and he wouldnt hold on to my fingers like he always does, he just sort of let me pick him up, but left all four legs sort of sprawled out. He sort of hops around too, not really walking like usual. I noticed that he was twitching a little bit, but nothing violent or anything. I also layed him on his back and he just layed there, and followed me with his eyes, but never moved. I had to turn him over. One last concern is that while he was on his back, i noticed that the lower half of his belly was sort of a dull brown. He just got done shedding not too long ago, or so i thought. Is this a fungal infection or shedding? I'm going to call the vet and try to get him in tomarrow, but any feedback would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!

Melissa Kaplan has this care sheet. www.anapsid.org/waterdragons.htmlMy first thoughts and instincts are that it is MBD but I am not familiar with Water Dragons. Please read the above article. Check to verify that you are providing the correct habitat. Mouth Rot and respiratory infections can be caused by incorrect habitat. Also this is a website on the care of Water Dragons www.icomm.ca/~dragon/Hope this helps. And yes a veternarian is needed immediately. Please let us know how things go. Take Care Marie

We have quite a few water dragon owners on here so hopefully they will respond to the post... Here is another forum we have a lot of members who go back and forth between but their main concentration are the WDs... gracefuldragons.proboards38.com/index.cgiGetting to the vet is a good thing, but also as Marie said double check and be sure the environment you have created is meeting all of your WD needs... Please post again let us know how things turn out!!

I really hope your little WD is ok. But it sounds like when Flick was on medication a long time ago. Flick is a chameleon but some animals react different to medicines. I think maybe your guy could just be fatigued or stoned from the drugs. Some people get that way so why can't animals? Dogs and cats do and Flick did, but Flick isn't normal anyway as you can see in the Chameleon section. I hope you find some answers but I would have contacted the vet ASAP. I guess I just worry a lot about my babies and don't ever want to loose any of them. Good luck with your WD keep us posted!

I'm thinking that it is the medication. I hope you get a vet appointment soon to have him checked out.

Okay, The vet said cheech had a little case of calcium difficiency, bt nothing serious. I did find out that my calcium supplement also contained phosphurus, which it didn't say on the label. So he is now getting the right amount of calcium, and has been acting a lot better. On another note, his mouthrot is about 95% gone, and he should be fine soon. Another big thing is shedding. He just lost a toe today because of bad shedding. It had become a little swollen, and just fell off. I didn't see any blood anywhere, but I'm going to to take him to the vet as soon as i can get an appointment to make sure it won't become infected. I have raised the humitity quite a bit. He has "bed a beast" for substrate which i like because it stays really moist. He also has a "little dripper" that runs down his leaves, plus I mist AT LEAST twice a day, and i usually spray the whole bottle eachj time. Is there anything I can do to help him shed? I've tried shedding aids, and slowly peeling skin off, but the lower half of his tail and toes havn't shed in quite a while. Thanks for your help everybody!

Keep the wound clean with some providone-iodine 10% solution (Betadine) and use some triple antibiotic ointment (Neosporin). The calcium deficiency could have led to MBD but you caught it early. Good work. On the shedding--for iguanas we bath them and rub the area with baby oil or petroleum jell to hold the moisture in. That will give the moisture a chance to work. Take Care Marie
