Just thought it was time I posted a little something here. Here is a few pictures of Lothar's enclosure. He's been living in it now for quite some time. It measures 6 feet by 12 feet by 7 feet high. Waterfall and pond in corner with basking shelf above. Basking shelf with mega-ray eb and i.r. heat lamp. The thermometer is just for testing purposes. All digitally controled now. The end away from the pond with rope ladder. Shelves and ramps to the right of previous pic. A few ramps are missing in the picture. A little further back to get the whole thing in the frame. Entire other end as well. I found I had to build a cage around the lights, he figured it was a great place to hang out on. He still climbs around the caging, but he will not burn himself now.

All I can say is WOW! That is a beautiful enclosure. This could even make Patrick jealous.
Did you keep a cost of expenditures on how much that project costs?
How do you maintain the pond and waterfall if they defecate in it?

The waterfall and pond system have an inline 5 micron filter and UVC light for inactivation of bacteria. The light was a surplus unit from work that I picked up, it's rated at 5 U.S. gpm at a four log kill. The log system is a scientific measure of the effectiveness of the unit. The UVC units sold for pond use are rated in gallons per minute on a one log scale. One in ten bacteria remaining, the unit I am using will leave one bacteria in 10,000 at 5 gpm. My pump runs at 4 gallons a minute. The pond and waterfall are also cleaned and the water changed once a week just to be sure.
As far as cost goes, I think I got carried away there. I estimate with all the materials, fixtures and controls, I've spent close to twenty-five hundred dollars Canadian on it so far. Still have to finish the outside of it too. I am going to dress the outside with either oak or pine and finish it with a little stain and urathane. Anyway, Lothar is one happy and spoiled Iguana.
