Hi Folks- Rex has decided it is time to go into heat and drive the rest of the house crazy. Now, most of you know Rex had a vicious first heat that lasted 8 long, hard months. After that his heat was barely noticeable, he was cranky at best. This year, suddenly he turns completely orange and becomes filled with "wanderlust", that obsession to roam around the house getting into trouble any way he possibly can. Thankfully he's not mean or nasty, just a handful to babysit. Here's an interesting thing. I was speaking to one of my iguana-friends about the fact that his heat is more apparent this year. They suggested that perhaps it's because of the new Mega-Ray lamp! I think I have to agree. Prior to Mega-Ray Rex had a combination of outside sun and weak UVB lamp exposure. While I'm sure it was adequate for health, it wasn't the powerful UVB that Mega-Ray pumps out. Now that he basks in awesome UVB and is on probiotics (Nutri-Bac, something I highly recommend) supplement it would appear that he is feeling "in his prime", shall we say. Of course feeling good will bring out the best in him, so I believe he is at his healthiest ever. Here's a pic I just took of him showing his colors.

Dominick....
That is one beatiful iguana there!! And like I said about Mr Worf he is HUGE!! I do love the coloring! Hope he keeps the even temperment through his season!
Question about the lights you and Patrick keep talking about! I know you can get them so they are UVB and not necessarily for the heat, but I am wondering is it a strong enough UVB to work outside of a reptarium enclosure or would it need to be installed on the inside? These lights can be adjusted for the amount of space you have in an enclosure? I am thinking of Calisto's closet and the spot for installing any lights to shine down on her shelf there is not a great deal of distance from shelf to ceiling but that is where she hangs out unless she gets too warm!
Well anyway as I said Rex is one terrific looking iggy! Sheesh Calisto will be drooling over him and Mr Warf!!

Thanks for the kind comments. Rex sends happy head-bobs! Elizabeth- Mega-Ray are Mercury Vapor lamps that give off tremendous UVB. there are different models for different needs. 250-300 Microwatts at 12" 100-150 Microwatts at 20" Consider the sun reads in the high 300's and you can clearly see the beneficial ability of these lamps. Another unique feature to ReptileUV's way of doing business Responsibly is there exclusive UVB to Order TM service. Basically you tell them the reptile, the distance from the lamp to the basking shelf and they will select the proper kit and send you a lamp custom-rated for your particular needs. You can't get better service than that! I highly recommend the EB line. It carries the longest warrantee and pumps Serious UV. The improvements in Rex's health shine through each and everyday he is under this lamp. Go to the site, call one of the lighting specialists at ReptileUV and ask all the questions you want! They are there to answer you, in person! Try that at one of the other reptile lighting companies. LOL www.reptileuv.com for SERIOUS UV!

Thank you Denise. as I mentioned, this didn't happen under his old lights. LOL He is quite comical about it. He will be nice an green, then within minutes turn orange and come off the cage to wander the house, get in trouble and get put back on his cage. This could happen a few times. Then he'll go back to more of a green color and relax and bask the rest of the day. LOL, it's almost as if he becomes possessed for a short time each day! LOL
Elizabeth- You don't need a meter to own a Mega-Ray. Certinaly it is suggested you have one, but not a requirement.
Perhaps you are confusing the Mega-Ray ZOO. That lamp is so strong it is only sold to zoos, rehabbers and serious herpers, and you MUST own a meter for that one. The rest (Mega-Ray EB, SB and Heat Flood) can be purchased by anyone.
As far as set up is concerned, I would suggest you take a picture of the enclosure, add the dimensions in it, including the light to basking shelf dimension and then e-mail it to them. They would be happy to tell you how many and what type you'll need. It's part of the great customer service they offer!
Good luck!
