I just came across this thread. There are some awesome cage set-ups out there. I thought I would share Ivy's cage. We got ivy a year ago and she was in a 55 gallon tank. It was way to small for her. We purchased this cage (shh...don't tell her it is a ferret cage!) the week after we got her. I felt so bad for her being in such a small space. She was so funny when we were putting it together, she would look down it and then turn her head so she could see the top of it. As soon as I put her in it she climbed right to the top! It was so funny! The cage has wheels on it and being that it is 6 feet tall, 4 feet wide & 3 feet deep it will roll out my front door. I let her lay out in the sun on warm Indiana days. It also gives me a chance to clean out behind it. I am very lucky that she potty trained in just two days! That has also made cleaning very easy. If there ever is a mess the tray in the bottom comes right out. My plan is that when she gets a little bigger to get another cage and remove the sides and connect the two. Then I will have a 6x4x8.

Wow! Nice cage! It looks pretty hard to keep the humidity up though. How do you deal with the open-air style?

Something that will help keep her humidity levels up (which should be around 60% - 80%) is adding plastic to the outside of the cage. Winter is especially harsh for keeping humidity levels up where they need to be. They sell heavy-duty plastic in stores like Lowe's pretty cheap. Leave the front opened so she can still see out...and you can still see her, but these open-air are mostly good for outdoor enclosures where igs are concerned. Pet stores don't want you to know that though...

I talked to my dad about this tonight. I am going to get plexi-glass and use those (my mind went blank on what they are called) plastic tie strap things and enclose the back & sides. I also think I will the two lower doors. I want the two upper doors open. I guess I hate for her to be completley closed in...

No reason the top part can't be opened...:-) I think you have a great plan. Plastic tie-strap things...hmmm...tarps maybe? Anyway...whatever it is it will help immensely...:-D

I enclosed 3 sides of the cage. I was shocked at how much plexi-glass costs! $22.00 a sheet. I used 3 sheets and I am gettig one more to do 3 of the 4 doors on the front and half of the top (the side without her lights). I have a tool that worked perfect to make the holes and I did end up using the zip-ties to attach the glass to the cage. It worked perfect!

That is fantastic! I know plexi has gone up since the petroleum prices have gone up. Plexi is a petroleum product after-all...and so is PVC. Things I use... I think Ivy is a lucky ig. Once you recover from the cost of the improvements you can purchase a cheapo (but well functioning) vaporizer to add to the enclosure adding humidity even more. This isn't a necessity, but it sure does make a difference...:-) I would love to see how the new and improved enclosure looks! I bet it looks much better than most people would think it would.

I have a question. I am building an enclosure for my girl Ziggy. It is 6ftx4ftx2ft. It is mostly wood. If I enclose the sides and the back can I put wire on the top and installa misting system? Will this keep enough humidity in her cage? I am putting two heat lamps on top for heat. I have a branch and I am putting 3 real plants. I have kitty litter box for her to bathe/poop in. I will take pictures of the progress. I hope to finish this next week. I have been working on it for about a week now. I appreciate any suggestions please.

The cat litter box to the left is held in place by a wire shelf that I put in upside down through a hole in the cage floor. This is so that I can move the cage outside and dump the water to clean it. Or I can put a large bucket under it to empty and clean. It be much easier to clean this way. I hop to get the indoor outdoor carpet on today and the wire mesh by the weekend. I also hope to get the plants in this weekend too.
