I modified an Iguana Lead & Harness (click here to see the product) that I had into a hip leash. I just formed a loop instead of forming the harness. I don't have a picture of Huff wearing his. But Kookie (Stephanie's iguana) is wearing a homemade hip leash in the link below Please note: Iguanas do not usually take to being walked like a dog. They will normally croc/alligator roll if you try. The leash is a safety device to prevent escape.

Is this better than the harness that goes around the 2 front legs? How big do iggys need to be to use one? I hope this isn't to old to ask questions about.

It is NOT too old to ask the question...:-) YES!! They are MUCH safer! Just keep it good and snug...right up against the skin so the legs don't slip out. www.prismwolf.fotopic.net/p2924443.htmlIgs can start very young, just so they can get used to the feel...not so you can allow them to walk on the floor. Iguanas under a year are very low on the food chain and become very stressed out when they're low to the ground since it makes them good targets for predators. Some are very flighty because of it.

We like the hip leash for Mayan (our green), but Kismet, the cyclura, seems to prefer a front harness. Since she doesn't have long spikes like a green and she doesn't have a tendency to "puff -uo" we go ahead and use a front harness with her. But I think the hip leashes are definitely the way to go in most cases!

yes i agree they look quite safe, never used one myself though on my iggy as i use a padded dog one for her and it fits its a vest type one.its just because of her back problems mainly lower back and her deformity on her back.i would worry about it rubbing on her sore bits
