Hey there everyone ,
Well as some of you know I have a 6.6 year old deaf Great Dane named Brutis.
I took Brutis out of his pen yesterday and he seemed fine, we walked to the mail box then around the yard and it was time to come in and eat supper and go to bed. So I brought him into the garage and he didn't want to stand on his one hind leg. I tried to touch it and he freeked out! So I had my bf come in and hold him while I looked at his foot. It was starting to swell up.
This morning it was about the size of my hand, which is large for a dogs foot expecially when its a big foot to begin with but even bigger when swelled up. He could barely get into the truck on the way to the vets office. So I had to lift his 121.4lb Bum into the truck.
We get there and the vet looks at it and goes "geesh" after poking and prodding around on his poor foot he says that its an infection in his foot and leg. But there is something weird about it. With infections like that usually there is an entry wound where something came in. But there was nothing. So could have been from somewhere else and just traveled there. He gave him an injection of antibiotics and steroids for the inflamation and a few hours later the swelling is starting to go down.
I soaked his foot in really warm epsum salted water and massaged it and that seemed to help a lot.
We need to go back to the vet everyday this week for an 11$ shot everyday. I'm going to see if I can just give them to him myself and save the half hour drive there.
So wish us luck on the infection getting better!
Stephanie & Brutis
Picture of him with his swelled foot. U can't really tell in this photo unless you know what your looking for. LOL Its the foot right in the open.
Here he is as mascot to the Ladies Firefighter barrel race team! He said GO MUMMY!
