Someone calls the pet store two nights ago, and I answered. She's tried to rehome her bird, but had no luck, and she is leaving town on Wed so now wants to give it to the store to resell. I told her that we don't sell those birds anymore, but perhaps my wife and I would be interested (I had to ask my wife first). So, we agreed to foster the bird to see if we can get along. If not, we will contact bird rescue, and work to find a decent home. The owner was OK with this. Yesterday, I set her (I think it really is a he) up in a cage. Right now, it is a large ferret cage because the cage given to us with the bird was rather small. Presenting Willow, our new (or just foster) Goffin thingyatoo: p.s. Have a good chat tonight. I don't get off work until midnight EST.

Hey there Koffee that is a great looking bird! I'm sure your make shift cage will do wonderfully, looks plenty big for the size of that bird. They should have enough room to spread there wings out fully and it deffinatly looks asthough he/she does right now.
You can get a blood test done on the bird by clipping the nail and putting the blood on a piece of paper they send you and they can tell you the sex. If you look it up online it will tell you names of some companys.
He/She is very cute anyway! Did the owner tell you why exactly they got rid of it? We just rehomed my mom's bird as my dad hated her. She is happy in her new home and I can visit her when ever I want. She is a good bird. Some people just don't have the time or the patience for them though.
Do you plan on socializing him/her out of the cage? Or has it been in the cage its whole life?

I know about the mail-in blood test, thanks. But doing some reading and looking at her eyes, I think she is a she now. I may do the blood test one day, but I'm not sure it matters in the long run. As intelligent as they are, I am not going to change the name no matter what.
The owner was going out of town for an extended trip, but also decided that her work schedule (now and when she gets back) doesn't provide enough time for Willow.
Willow was semi-free-roaming. I cannot do that - at least not yet. But I am trying to give her plenty of supervised out-of-cage time. I planned to take it slow and give her time to acclimate, but she is doing really well - no plucking, quick to step-up, and so on.
Her screech isn't too bad or too long so far. The main thing for me is getting over my fear of that beak, but I'm trying hard to not show that to her.

I have that very same ferret cage...:-D
Very pretty bird. I doubt you'll have much trouble finding her a good home...or a ggod rescue. There are severl bird rescues around the country who would do a wonderful job in placing her in a forever home.
Ummm...you won't fall for her will you? She's awefully sweet looking!!
