Well me and my friend went night herping and since its around breeding season we were seeing alot of toads in these giant mud puddles. Now toads dont really like water so this is usually the only time they go in the water. Well we were seeing this one male toad and he was just croaking away(trying to get a female). THEN! out of no where this huge, *pregnant* female comes swimming up to him. She swims around him and then he jumps on her back and clings on! And dont worry guys, they aren't mating! And by the way, me and my friend were crouched down in this mud and these frogs are RIGHT infront of our feet and it was just amazing to see! And they didn'y even mind that we were there shinning a flashlight in their eyes! But anyways, they aren't mating, the female already has the eggs inside of her, she lays UNfertile eggs and the male, thats on her back, kicks sperm on the eggs as shes laying them. Unfortunatly we didn't get to watch that because it was late and it can take hours, even days! But it was cool! We checked couple days later and found toad eggs! woo hoo! And there were some in a creek nearby me that hatched a few days ago so maybe the ones in the puddle hatched as well. I know its exciting stuff!! Well thanks for listening to my little story guys! Hope you enjoyed it:)
