Have any of you had any experience with venomous snakes? Lately I've been getting into venomous animals and I was thinking that in the future (5-10 years) I would get something like a rattlesnake. Before this though I would get experience with hots from a breeder I know here and maybe I would get a CB diamondback rattlesnake or something similar from him at one point in the future. So what do you think about this?

Wow, thats big...um...I would definitely practive and get help way before you get one, its dangerous but I guess can also be a fun experience. The only venonous one I have is a western hognose, and those wont kill you, just make you swell up. Good luck with that though!

The first snake that I would plan on getting would most likely be some sort of rear fanged venomous. Then from there I could get more dangerous species like eylelash vipers but again this will not happen before I get tons of experience. And thanks for the support.

Anubis do you have a death wish lol. Anubis I can tell you from over 10 years of keeping herps that I honestly am not ready to keep hots. I know people who have been keeping herps for longer then that and dont keep hots. Anubis if you really want to get into hots then do lots of research and get lots more expereince before considering it. Hots are also illegal to keep in most places. You would need a room just for hots that is kept locked among other things. Stick with scorpions Anubis, there alot easier to handle .

Well you're very supportive Jason. lol. Like I said I'd get a ton of experience. And just because you don't want to own hots doesn't mean I won't make the commitment of learning about vemomous snakes. I won't get any horribly venomous snakes until I am very, very experienced. Like I said I'll start off with the mild venom ones. Rear fanged and similar things. And hots aren't illegal to keep in Arizona. And in the future I could provide the room for the snakes. Trust me before I keep many of them I'll get everything ready and plan all of this out. And by the time I do get a diamondback or something similar I'll be in my mid twenties or thirties.

better to find a mentor 1st and learn from them, over here you need a special license called a DWA to keep hots but alot of people before even concidering it find a keeper of them and learn from that person for many years

Hey Vash Well they're not for me but I do not mind people that have them and a lot of them are Very nice looking Snakes but for me I do not think so.... But if I was going to get in to them I would definitely get a mentor like LouLou said and learn as much as possible first.

Hey there, somehow I missed this thread. I don't mind people keeping dangerous snakes in your house. But a friend of mine had snakes for many many years, all kinds, shapes, colours, from different places. His dream snake was a pit viper. He'd had copper heads before, cotton mouths, diamond backs, scorpians, trantulas, tree snakes, watersnakes, boa's, pythons and probably many more kinds I can't remember to name. He was doing a routine snake check and the pit viper bit him. It only took one second of unpredictable movment that the snake didn't expect and it bit him in the finger. He immediatly tied his finger off and was rushed to the nearist hospital. As us living in Southern Ontario we are known to have a few venemous snakes hanging around. Luckily they had the antivenom and he it still almost cut his 28 year old life off forever. He almost lost his finger first, then his hand. But luckily the dr's knew how to relieve the swelling pressure and he got to keep them all. He was in intensive care for 3 days and in the hospital for a week more. Needless to say, that killed his venemous snake keeping hobby. I am not against this at all, you can do it if you are very very very careful EVERY time you do a check or just want to show someone. EVERY second counts and so does every movement you make with a dangerous snake. And it doesn't hurt to be sure that your emergency room closest to you is equiped to handle such accidents. If he would have been 5 hours north of here, they don't carry most snake anitvenoms, as the snakes up there arn't usually poisionous and he would have died within a few hours. Good luck to you and post what you chose to do, if you do get some venomous ones please feel free to post some pictures for us
