Well I have to say I am in love. I went to Petland today to buy catfood and as always went to go look at what reptiles and little animals they have. WELL I looked and there were three baby bearded dragons in a tank. BUT the one that stood out was this like beige/dark brown beardie. SHe was gorgeous compared to the other two. Don't get me wrong, the other 2 were cute but SHE was just special. She had this BIG w i d e mouth that looked as if she was smiling. She just stared at me and stood in one place. I am truely in love. Now the problem. It is my birthday today and so far was girfted about 400 bucks. I was going to buy a digital camera and an IPod Shuffle. Now I am thinking about nixing the IPod and going back and getting her and a tank along with the camera.
Any advice would be highly helpful.

Well in the way of reptiles and my reading beardies are certainly a good way to go... I had been giving them a lot of thought myself and still have plans for some in the future...
We have some members with good advice on beardie keeping... I know Patrick's little niece got one and it is growing really well and she loves him to pieces!! So I don't think you could go wrong with getting one... The thing to look at would be your time for care with all you have to do and all those things...
Make sure you read up a little on them before heading back to the store... I think there is a care sheet on here you can look over for some basics... The biggest thing I have gotten is avoiding loose substrates like sand for the enclosure... You are better off with plain paper or newspaper... The need higher temps in basking I think than Lizzie would need...
Let us know what you decide to do... And be sure to get the cam so we can see new pictures if you get the little beardie!!

Beardies are great! They really are! Just remember, that they do cost more then just buying the beardie and the tank, the food and lighting/heat adds up over time. They are omnivores, so they need dark, leafy greens as well as crickets, superworms, silkworms, and roaches. Variety is important in their diet!
This is just my opinion, but I dont recommend purchasing from petstores, just because a majority of them don't take care of their animals well at all and they end up being sick or not eating. But unless you know your petstore is reliable then go ahead.
Let us know if you decide to get the beardie and we can answer more of your questions. Make sure you research them a lot and make sure you know and have everything before purchasing the dragon.

If you just want to have a Bearded draogn, and looks don't matter, I suggest adopting. They aren't commonly up for adoption, but you see them once in a while.

There is really not anything I can add. I agee that you should make sure to consider how much time, money and effort that you will have to devote to a new addition to your family. And should read up on them. But I agreee that they are adorable. I wish I had the resources to devote to another animal. I would sure consider one of these. Take Care Marie

Thanks everyone for your replies. I agree with you all. I know I would have to by it a new enclosure and new lighting and all that andI have done ALOT of reading about them ever since I saw Thorin and fell in love with him. Thats how I fell in love with Beardies, all cause of that gorgeous boy Thorin. I thought about it and as much as I want one or two at this time it probably wouldnt be the greatest idea. SO I passed, but still cant keep that gorgeous beardie out of my mind. She was just so special looking and we just stared at one another. I felt a connection. Anyway I hope she finds a good home but if I go back and she is still there then a few hundred will have to be spent. . I thought that for a few days I was going to be able to keep Lizzie and the beardie together. Just till I got the new setup, but I dont want Lizzie getting stressed and or jelous so I guess I made the best decision. I do know that a beardie will be a part of my family one day though. I think they are just adorable. SSSHHH don't tell Lizzie. Madlen
