Hi Folks- It's my pleasure to introduce you to my 6 year old male green iguana, Iguanasaurus Rex, Rex for short. Here's Rex and my wife Tammy: We bought Rex from a pet store back when we were stupid humans. After about a week of "pet store" care I started researching care on the internet. Out went the Iguana Pellets, heat rock and aquarium; in came the large enclosure, fresh greens and "salad" and a new UVB light and heating pad. Rex has thrived every since. He is 18" SVL and about 52" STL, weighing in at about 12 pounds. Rex is a free-roamer (his choice, not ours), and is currently house-grounded after running away outside and being gone for 18 days before he came home. This was the second time this happened (the first time was 8 days and he was found by the neighborhood kids walking across our street). Rex entered his first heat at about 2 years old and it last for 8 months, it was then we finally decided on his gender. During this time he was locked in his cage, as he was downright vicious and would bite anyone who entered the room, except my then 5 yo son. After his heat ended, he became a gentle giant and has remained so to this day! Next to my wife and kids, Rex is the biggest part of my life and has made iguanas in general my passion. Regards, Dominick

Hi Elizabeth-
I'm sure Rex does go into season every year, but we can never really tell. In the worst case he gets grumpy, but nothing bad, hardly perceptible. And we Thank God for that! LOL
His 8 month first heat was bad enough to take care of heats for the rest of his life! I really wish I had taken videos of him back then. We can hardly believe he was ever like that. If he got out of his cage, he would chase you down and bite the heck out of you!
At the time we were just trying to figure out what to do about him. Only thing that worked was to have my 5 year old son (Rex's true owner) handle him. In Dominick's hands, Rex was a sweetheart. If Dominick was in the room, Rex was fine. Remove Dominick from the room and the killer-Rex would return. I've written about this often on AIML. If was a very strange phenomenon.
So, to answer your question, no, no more male season aggression past the first one.
Regards, Dominick
