Hello Jenn
Well you can tell your friend for me that is not true. But there is a care sheet here under care sheets at can answers some of your Questions. I would not use bleach to clean out your iggys enclosure that is not good now you can use what I use and that is anti bacteria soap which works really well for me or you can use Nolvasan that you are going to have to ask your vet where to get it and it well have to be diluted. The humidity is a good thing they Like humidity. But check out the care sheet here and if you have not purchased it yet Iguana For Dummies is a real good book to have around it covers a lot of stuff that you well find helpful.

The cleaning products I use are peroxide and vinegar You need two spray bottles.... One you put the vinegar and the other the peroxide you spray one on whatever then follow immediately with the other... I let it sit for a bit and then rinse usually the smell goes too... This is a safe non-toxic way to disinfect things you can even spray your greens or the cutting board with it... It is great for wooden cutting boards that can soak up toxic cleaners... It is safe to you and to you iggy... my.execpc.com/~mjstouff/articles/vinegar.htmlA trick I learned for made at home methods to help cut the odors is to use a cloth and a box of baking soda... You empty the box into the cloth then wrap the cloth up around the powder and secure it with a zip tie o rubber band or something... Hang it in the room or near the enclosure and just remember to give it a squeeze now and again to mix the baking soda up... It last for about a month for me...

I had the problem with that smell not long ago, I found it too be food(veggies), that had fallen out, and gone bad, So make sure you clean out the food dish at every feeding, And make sure there arent any greens laying around, I find it helps, As i have no odor anymore.

Hi Jenn
Water is not the same do you have any anti bacterial soup that will work with hot water or what you could use is dish soup and hot water but let it air out for a short time before putting LittleFoot back in there.

the vinegar will help with the smell and cleaning but to actually be a disinfectant you need the peroxide... I just pick it up at the local pharmecy or whatever you have... It'll run you less than a dollar most times....
I am with Patrick just use hot water and soap for the time being making sure to rinse really well and give it a good wipe down to dry it out...
