I am going to be a little more out than in I think for a few days here on the board. Yesterday evening I had a fire in my reptile room in my home! The fire dept. showed up quickly and were able to keep the damage to just their room... The baby iguanas were already gone to a new home so it was just my 3 iguanas in there (who made it out safely) and Hermes my golden gecko who sadly passed away in the fire... So I am with my 3 kids at my parent's house till my house can be set back in order and I can move back in... My iguanas are in very good hands I drove them with a friend down to Cleveland to live with Patrick and Denise till I can get them moved back in with us! You couldn't ask for a better friend than to have Patrick and Denise in your corner thanks guys!! The house did fill totally with black smoke but thankfully my rabbit, snake, frog and my two Uros were out in the living/dining room area... They have been taken in my a good friend of mine and will be well cared for there as they are all reptile lovers to boot... His daughter has a beautiful ball python... Anyway I will do my best to keep up with my photo of the week etc as I have my laptop with all my programs on it here with me... Just wanted to let you know I might not be on a lot till I get things settled here...

Elizabeth,
Sorry to hear about Hermes and your house. Thank God you and your family are safe though.
I am glad you have such good friends to help you out in your time of need. Your iguanas couldn't be in better hands with Patrick and Denise and I'm sure your other reptiles will be well cared for by your other friend.
I hope the repairs will go quickly and you can move back home soon. Don't worry about anything but getting your family and pets all back together at home.
My prayers and thoughts will be with all of you.
Take Care Marie

Elizabeth, I am soooo sorry that you had a fire. I know how devastating they can be as my bf is a fireman. I'm glad your fire department was able to contain the blaze and you still have the rest of your house. Sorry to hear about your poor Hermes, but he on the rainbow bridge now. I think that was great of you to bring your iggys to Denise and Patricks house and they are great people for caring for them If you need any help I'm only an hour away. Did you find out what caused the fire? I am also glad that you and your family are safe and that none of your other pets were hurt. And I'm sure your iggys will be happy to get back with you when everything is straightened out. And I would love to come and visit you guys and help out with anything you need I hope this wasn't too traumatic on the kids though. Talk to you soon!

Thanks everyone... Things will just be a slow process for now.. mostly washing all the clothes and bedding right now just to get rid of the smell.. It was an electrical fire one of the iggys managed to pull a clamped lamp down some how... I had all the cords tucked up but they often have a mind of their own as to where they want to climb... I will be looking forward to getting their enclosure finished and getting them back home and all that!!
Right now I am not even sure how long we will be out of the house waiting for the insurance people to come take a look at the house and to tell the landlord what work it will take to get me back in there...
The kids are ok and all that since they are getting to stay with their grandma and papa so give it a week for that novelty to wear off!!
Thanks for the good wishes everyone!!
I will take you up on the visit when I have the house back in order that would be really cool I can get Denise and Patrick to come up and you could meet them too!!

I am sorry to hear of your fire and loss. Take you time we will still be here when you can get back. I work as a volunteer fire fighter in my small town. We are constantly trying to get people to properly install cords. Right now I am working to properly install the wireing on my enclosure. I am glad that you and the family and house are in such good state. Is there anything you need to speed up your rebuild? If you need anything, anything please just ask I will try to find a away to get it to you. I do not have much but if you need it you got it.

Thank you that is such a nice offer!! Actually my landlord has been really great about the whole thing... They pretty much have the painting in all the bedrooms and hallway and upstairs bathroom finished... Now my house is starting to smell like new paint rather than smoke and stuff from the fire and water... Now new carpet and windows back there and those will be complete... They just have to repaint the kitchen, dining/living room area and then recarpet in there and it will be finished... The harder part is finding a place to put my things when they start on the rooms, since they said I didn't have to move all my large furniture out of the house...
I cleaned out their room mostly just lost dome lamps and bulbs and a timer for my lights... I need to figure out how I am going to set up the wiring for the new enclosure but there are two plug ins available in the area one inside and one out so hopefully between the two I can prevent any problems like this in the future! So anyway we are doing ok my kids seem to enjoy hanging out at their grandparent's house which is nice for them since my older ones have friends here... I however can't wait to get back home, but can't tell you how much I appreciate my parent's and all the help from my friends....

Hey Elizabeth
Glad everything is coming along and it will soon be done I was thinking about coming up this Sunday but I do not know if it would be ok. To finish the inside part of the enclosure down stairs for now tell you get all settled again at least you could get the boys spilt up and you do not worry about setting the things up I well help you there and get it so nothing will get knock over or anything. But it will be me this time Denise has to work And will not make it this time. If you can call me or I can call you tonight! And let me know.

That is great that everything is starting to come together! I am sooo glad that it is starting to smell better too! When you move back in and everything is replaced or fixed just keep the windows open to air it out and things should smell great! Hope for now that everything is going well I will look forward to meeting you and everyone else in the near future
