it says on there that that iguana is eating mice and ground turkey?
Thought they were herbivores? Or are Rhino's different?

Hello They are a liitle different from the Greens. According to www.nashvillezoo.org/riguana.htmthey are omnivores--but mostly herbivores They probably would do well though on a Green Iguana diet. 8-)Marie

ok this is one subject I know about about from the big guy (John Binns). Cyclura are herbivores. They do not do well with animal protien even thought the seem to relish it. I had an online breeder (who I got my cornuta from) tell me that pinks and worms are a valuable part of a diet for the rock iguanas---and after I emailed Robert MacCargar and he put me in touch with John, he thoroughly explained to me how they would rarely digest animal protien out in the wild. He also added that after I took my trip to Cayman I would have a better understanding of these guys and he was right. I have heard from others who chose to feed thier cyclura a diet consisting of part animal protien some horror stories about the condition of their iguanas as time went on (especially females). Don't listen to rouge websites and people who claim to be experts simply because they breed---go straight to a person who knows thier stuff based on time out in the field

Nicole Thank you very much for the information. It actually wasn't a rougue site that the information about them being omnivores but mostly herbivores came from but from the Nashville Zoo website. I guess zoos like veternarians can be behind the times on the care of the animals they care for. >:(Thanks again for the excellent information. Glad you are here to help. Everyone Here is a site (that I am sure everyone will agree is not a rogue site) that has links to more information on these animals www.anapsid.org/cyclura/index.htmlShould have went to her site first. For some reason it didn't come up when I did a search on Rhino Iguana Thanks Marie

Yes, that is good information site. But like I've said before humans are just humans and sometimes we make mistakes. But a zoo shouldn't be making mistakes about the care of there animals. Someone should email them telling them to check out MK's site if they are caring for there's wrong. Afterall its about the animals not the people. Glad that it got straightened out Things are good to know.
