Well I could resist no longer ;D I brought home two Mali Uromastyx today.... A male and a female... They are so sweet... They both enjoy being held and are friendly little ones... I have them out in the living room since they don't need humidity like the iguanas... their temps are doing pretty good and they have been very active this evening and even polished off a dish of food... They are housed in a 50 gal breeder tank currently... There is plenty of room for them and I am enjoying them soooo much already!! Lily: Herman: Aren't they just too cute!! ;D ;D

The woman that owned the reptile store I was at was very knowledgable and all the reptiles there were very healthy..
Anyway she said that the birdseed was great... This is a parrot fruity mix... She said it was easy for them to digest... I saw it on a care sheet in a few other places too... She suggested it to a breeder who comes to her store, and they used it and said that it has improved the color of their reptiles as well...
So for now I will continue with it since they are used to it and there seems to be no problems with any of the repltiles they have there...
This shop is tiny but soooooo coool.... They have this great enclosure with their "store pet" in it and it is a 10 yearold iguana terrific looking!!

See I really want to use bird seed for my Uro, but I have a parrot and I get these moths that get into the bird food(food in general) and eat it and lay eggs, etc.! So I dont think I will be able to use it! Darn! Maybe I will end up trying it but not now And Elizabeth dont listen to Patrick, there is nothing wrong with being a Reptile Girl! LOL! j/k Patrick! Yeah I am just taking the reptile world by storm... Eventually I will get a set of beardies for myself and the kids but that is down the road... I like a variety of them but with 3 kids to raise too I have to keep an eye on space and all that stuff... For now these two new additions are enoug to keep me busy!! They are cuties and really friendly... I figure at the rate I am going I will be the old woman down the street with reptiles not cats!! ;D Steven do you have enough substrate for your little girl to burrow into... I think I need to add more so that it is a little deeper for them to dig into... What do you use right now?? Could you keep the bird seed in a tupperware tub of some sort to keep moths out of it till you use it?? I would think with the heat these things need, moths would not be likely to head in there to try to lay their eggs...

Bird food and lizards. Wow I learn something new every time I come in here. I know this is an old post but I am trying to get to know everyone a little better. I don't think I have seen any uromastyxs in pet stores. How big do they get? They got some weird shaped heads, Hope they aren't reading this!lol

From the reading I have done they can get up to being about 12 to 18 inches in length... I know their heads are a little funny but man these two are so entertaining... Lilly is quite social, while Herman comes out but he avoids being picked up if possible... I love to watch them eat... They snatch food from one another the whole time...
