How do you potty train your iggy? Can you use something other than litter? If you do use litter, cant they digest it?

Hi, I would not use litter, they can toung flick it and then it gets swallowed. Once its in the gut it could cause impaction. Not to mention they could get it stuck in the vent. Some of the males stick out their hemithingy near the end of defication and then the litter sticks and goes back inside them. Some people use litter pans or tubs with water or newspaper in it. If your iggy goes in the same spot everytime, you could put newspaper there or the tub. What we did with Noshi when he was in a cage was get him out, put him in the pan with newspaper. He would go then we let him explore his ig-proof room. Some people use warm water in the bath tub. The water usually stimulates them to go. You have to disinfect the tub afterwords. Hope that helps.

Sean is right. We all use water in the litter pan...some use newspaper. Zair is also tub trained. He'll use both...and the newspaper on the floor. He used to be 100% water pan trained until I placed a female with him at one time. She used the holy water pan and even though she was adopted out years ago...he still doesn't use the pan much. The tub he sure does though.
Consistency. That's the key for tub training. Everyday about the same time. For the litter pan...many take to it very quickly.

I've never been able to get my cyclura to use the pan or the tub. If he does it's just coincidence. I think he just likes to poop on me
