Hi
we have got two little leopard gecko's today,
(we wanted more than one eventually but only intended on getting one at first anyway we were convinced in the shop to get two today as if we wanted more than one at a later stage then it would be hard to get another one the same size) yes I know we should of stuck to our guns as we don't know what sex they are yet as they are so young) we know we cant have two males together so might end up having to separate them at a later date
we have a big tank and went for the aspen bedding (they advised sand but we had read that it was not good for little gecko's) we got a heat lamp (blue!!) again advised to use that one.
anyway what i would like to ask you all is how long do we need to leave the heat light on for, we have it at one end of the 3ft tank its a 60watt bulb so there is a cooler end and a warmer end, and we have got hideaways in all parts of the tank.
so do we need to turn it off at night or maybe put it on a timer for a few hours on /off so to speak, also the tank is in a well lit room that is generally warm most of the time, the temp in the tank is 80 degrees at the moment (uk temp is quite mild at this time of year anyway) or do we need extra lighting in the daytime
would this be warm enough for the two little things at night without a heat lamp and is the light bulb (blue) the best one to have or would we be better off getting a red bulb
could someone explain the difference between the blue and red bulbs and the advantages of them or doesn't it matter..
neither gecko has eaten since we put them in the tank this morning although we did put two wax worms in there.
how long do we leave them in, and what's the best time to feed them anyway, personally i would of thought at night but again we were advised to feed them once a day in the daytime. and to give them a locus each and the odd treat of wax worm
any advice or help appreciated
Ann
