Hello everyone, My name is Jonathan. I am from the flat state of Oklahoma. I am the pround parent of two baby iggies. My iggy is named Jimmy and Reptar who me and my gf share. I just found this site and think its rockin so far. I have been posting at Greenigsociety, but prefer the forum over the message board. Here a two pics of my iggies and I. This is me and jimmy on the balcony enjoying 80 degree weather in the winter lol. This is my gf's recently rescued (2 days ago) buddy REPTAR! He was stressed so this is all i got, but he was to dehydrated to not give a bath...

Well Hello and Welcome guys I just have a few some good things to say and some negative things to say.. The iggy in the first picture looks very alert and happy His coloring is beautiful. The only negative thing is his poor toes! Unless its just the photo that makes him look like he's missing lots of them on his left foot. If they are missing I hope you got him like that. Not meaning to be rude or anything And for the second iggy! Great of you to give him a bath!!! And stressed out! man poor guy. I'm sure he will perk up. Since you knew about the bath I'm hoping you know about UV lighting and proper diet as well. I wanted to welcome you again to the forum and hope you enjoy it here. There is a lot of information on here and people mostly read and some will post new things. There are search bars to look things up if you didn't want to ask WE prefer you ask though I agree with the forum being better than a message board. But GIS is a very good message board They will hook you up with proper information as well as we will Hope I didn't scare you away with my honesty I'm sure you will care for them properly

No sadly I was the toes person. The guy at petco lied to me and for the first 2 months he was improperly cared for. I noticed something looking wrong with him i did some research and WOW! I was so angry, I quickly grabed a uv bulb, some food supplement, took him to a vet and now we are both happy and have a good solid routine, Hopefully the second turns out better knowing what i know now.

Hi Yes sadly MOST petstores don't know anything about proper care of most reptiles in there store. An iguana is a cheap pet to purchase but an expensive pet to care for. Some pet stores tell you the wrong information and hope you'll just come back and buy another one when your iguana dies prematurely. Can you tell me the diet and make of bulb you bought? If its a compact florescent they are garbage. They produce hardly no UV light at all. The regular florescent's work a lot better they need to be 12" away from your iguana's basking spot. And only last 6 months with moderate uv output. Iguana's are HIGH UV requirement reptiles and need it for survival and bone health Its good to know that you are doing your research to make things better for the first one and have learned something to better the care of the second one. That is a great thing!

I've done my research and know everything your pretty much telling me. I have a mercury vapor 160 wat sitting about 15 inch away making his basking spot temp around 95-100. His diet is collard greens as the staple, with watermelon and blueberries as a snake. Some times i mix squash or another type of green to collard greens to give variety...

Great UVB bulb! Sorry for sounding like a courtroom, just care about everybody's iguanas. I need to work on a nicer way to sound on forums (or just stay out lol).

I know you care about iguanas just like I care, but wow. I have never felt so incompetant. I love my iguana 10 times more than your iguana just because. So I think im gonna take care of it...I hope everyone hasn't come under this kind of "honesty" . I dont see why your so "honest" about BASIC care...It could be a little offensive. My g/f who provides just as much care as I do was put into shock mode thinking we didn't know how to take care of our iggies. If I didn't mention I am part of OCHS (Oklahoma City Herp Society) so I am surrounded by people who care about all reptiles and I dont think they would let me do something stupid like that. Chamzilla I wish you could come to Oklahoma and tell all the people who have iguana's and are using heat rocks instead of uvb, those are the people who need the honesty.

Hi Jimbojack, It is never our intention to make you feel like that, and sorry if it came across that way. The animals welfare is top of our priority. I'm sure you can imagine some of the horror stories that come through here. So we try and make sure that everyone has the right information about how to care for iguana's properly. Just making sure you've gotten the right information, there is a lot of misleading information out there. Sorry again if we made you feel that way. I was asking about the thighs... because males develop waxy bumps called femoral pores on the inside of there thighs. They drag these on things to mark there scent. If they are there... they will be whitish and may not be sticking out a lot. Some stick out a lot. That is a really good way to tell if he/she is deffinatly a he. And I deffinatly agree with you on the heat rock thing... that is why we try and find out how someone is caring for your iguana. Its for the animals well being. And that is great that you belong to a herp society!! I wish more people were dedicated like that. We don't happen to have any herp society's in Ontario (Canada) Nor very many trained reptile vets. I am very greatful and your iguana's are VERY lucky to have informed owners like you and ur g/f, I'm sure you are doing a spectacular job.. but I was just making sure. Keep up the good work!!

I definately agree with you on the "horror stories" some are more like night tremors or something. I just hadn't been questioned like that in a long time lol. I am usually the one asking...and I couldn't figure out why you were asking because jimmy is a very healthy looking iggy, except for the toes, and reptar the skinny one who is shocked is one of those rescue stories...so I could see how you would want to make sure. I thought I explained his story, but thanks for caring like you guys. We need to get some life into the forum.
