I just adopted an approximately 2 year old female green iguana, she is missing all but two of her front claws and has a few light burns on her side, she eats but not much and has only deficated once in the past for days. I just got her in her new cage so I was thinking maybe she'd be uneasy with it, so far she is being more active and seems to be a little happier now. but anyone that could toss out some suggestions I would really appreciate it. I can post some pictures if requested, i'm new to the site and really didnt figure that out yet. thanx

Welcome to the forum!! As for pictures...you can use several free photo hosting sites. My favorite is www.imageshack.us . I love it's thumbnail feature. Other sites have that feature, too...but not all. Your ig may be dehydrated. She should have access to plenty of water...and baths might get her drinking some...but more often they like drinking from a squirt bottle placed right up to the crack of the mouth. Place it more at the rear of the mouth so as not to get the water under the airway which lies under the tongue. Depending upon how far down the claws had been pulled out...they might or might not grow back. If they do...it can take a couple of years easily. It will take about two weeks for an adjustment period. Don't expect her to eat much. This will make it that much more important to get water into her. If you would like to bone up on some more information on what she'll need to get her back on track...do your research (if you haven't already) on diet, temperatures and UVB. Some excellent websites to get this from follows: www.anapsid.orgwww.greenigsociety.orgwww.iguanaden.orgHappy reading!! And thank you for taking this girl in. It sounds like she needed someone just like you to save her...:-)

Hi Treder! And welcome to the forum! The links Veronica (aka Prismwolf) gave you are some of the best links out there. As for the missing nails, are the tips of the fingers healed up or are they oozing and infected or anything like that? There is some care required if any of these things are happening. Also water is really important, Watermelon (the same part we eat) is very good for getting some hydration as well as some nutrients into an iguana. Lots of them like watermelon and it will help them out when they are not eating or drinking. Some pictures would be great! As we could see her/him and give you a better reading of what we think of him/her. Good luck and keep us updated on its progress
