So sorry for the lost of those Blues. Too bad people can not be responsible. The Blues & the dumped animals have to suffer because of them. Hope they can capture those dogs soon. Thanks Desiree for posting it.

This is really sad news. I really must send in a donation at some point, but then again, there is a long list of people and groups I want to help... only so much time and money. All I can do for now, besides sending positive thoughts/energy, is post about this in some non-critter forums I frequent to maybe bring a little more attention to the iguanas and their situation. I even changed my sig-pic to a cayman blue in some of those forums, with a link to the recovery site.

Another great organization is the IRCF. They are involved with the Blues. I love the magazine.

There are many ways to help with the Blues, not necessarily just donations. You have already done so, by spreading the word. I found out last night that one of my friends had heard about the news I had posted; she made a generous donation. Joining IRCF is another way, as IRCF provides several levels of support to BIRP - we maintain the website, putting together an online Blue Iguana sponsorship program, coordinate volunteers, provide publications support, etc. Our membership is $25/yr; upon receipt, you'll receive 4 quarterly journals. The coming issue's cover is quite fantastic - a flying lizard It's going to be a bit late, since the IGUANA team have been busy with a variety of things, outside of the Journal. I'm going to really miss seeing both Sapphire and Slugger on my next trip. Sapphire is displayed on our BIRP information sheet; she was a fixture at the picnic tables. Slugger basked by the restrooms. On my first trip I spent a number of hours observing him and photographing him. Sapphire was just so majestic looking laying flopped down on the picnic table. I just uploaded the article, plus another one this morning at www.blueiguana.ky You can get to them via the left menu bar or via the top bar - Resources | Article. It was difficult working with the one article since I was readying the photograph of Fred and Slugger for the upload.

So many good causes, and so little money and time to spread out among them. But I'll dig up the $25 at some point, and probably get a t-shirt as well. I assume some of the t-shirt money goes to help, and they are beautiful enough to wear and show off regardless of anything else. It is great that you were able to go down there, and actually spend time with them. I probably never will. Again, personal priorities. If I ever take a trip to an "exotic island", I'll probably be exploring Borobudur on Java. But I will try to get pics of native reptiles too. The article said that Sapphire and Slugger were the two most photographed iguanas in the world. Now I've seen many wonderful pictures of many beautiful iguanas on the various sites devoted to the blue iguanas, but I have no idea who is who. I am curious to see photos of these two specifically. Can you please post links (or photos) to them? Thank you!

They were absolutely gorgeous animals. No wonder they were photographed so much. Their deaths are such a trajedy. May they rest in peace. Hopefully no others will become victims. Thank you Desiree for posting the photos. Thank John Binns for allowing you to share the pictures.
Hey Koffee one of the prizes in the contests is a paid membership.

Just an fyi, I'm still awaiting formal news from Fred. Despite Sapphire and Slugger's terrible deaths, he still has to continue forth with the exhausting radio tracking in the Salina Reserve.
