Hi everyone,
Sadly I had to amputate Sweet Pea's tail. I called the vet and he said that if the tissue was dead it wasn't falling off because of the bone still attached. So I took a pair of cat claw trimmers, disinfected and alcohol'd them. Cleaned the area with betadine and cut it off. It was a pretty traumatic experience to me, but Sweet Pea didn't even flinch due to the dead tissue. I will post pics of the before and after. He said I could pay 60$ to come in and get it cut off or just do it myself and bring her in for a check up after. So I did it. I'm not proud but I did it. She wanted to eat and everything right after. And it didn't even bleed, which is great because lizards can't afford to loose much blood. Thanks for listening.

Well she seems to be handling it well and in the end the amputation is better than what could go wrong with not taking it off... I am sure she will recover well glad you were brave enough to do it for her! Let us know what the vet says at the check up!!

Hey everyone, well it has been one full day and then some since the amputation. And her tail end is looking GREAT! healing over very well with some help from some antibiotic ointment! I use the ointment on her and the cream on me. Is the ointment better for her instead of the cream? Says that the ointment makes a film on the wound to help be protected. Hope to hear some info. Thanks, And I'll tell ya what the vet says ! I send him pics and he'll tell me in a few days if she needs to actually be seen! thanks for all the support!

Glad to hear she is on the mend now!!
