Hey Everyone,
I am going to be moving soon. Was hoping it was going to be in September but it will be October instead.
The lawyer screwed up. He tried to probate the estate just under my stepfather's Will (Al never probated mom's estate) but ended up having to probate mom's also. He knew he might have to. Told us he might have to. Mom's probate did not get filed until a little bit over 2 months after Al's. So the distribution is delayed by that amount of time.
I figure he didn't want to probate mom's estate because even though he would get two fees the fees are based on the value of the estate at the time of death. My mom died about 6 years ago before the ballpark was built in middle of downtown causing property to skyrocket so the estate was worth a lot less then. And probating mom's estate made Al's estate only 1/3 the property. So overall he made less money and caused us a delay of 2 months.
But the house has been sold and we just have to sit out the extra 2 months. But on the bright side I will not have to rush so much to get things done unless I procastinate like I do a lot. Believe it or not it went for $435K. The realtor got $21,750 (I need to change careers). Since Al was living off the equity of it (eventhough he didn't own all) for the last several years the bank gets most of that. I think the bank should eat the portion of the debt that Al added after mom's passing since he did not own the house but oh well. But my sister and I will still get a small portion each of it--so I guess I should start liking the Padres even if I dislike baseball. Unless something comes out of the "woodwork" we will be able to get on with our lives. But everything looks like it will go smoothly (knock on wood) now that the house is sold.
Well it will be interesting to move with 3 iguanas across the country in a U-Haul towing my car. Wonder how many people have done that. Last time I moved I just shipped a few boxes and took a 3 day trip on Greyhound. It will be an experience for sure.
