I'm very tired and very sore. I just finished my 7th straight day of being a farm hand, with one more to go. And I just got Internet back today. Oh well. I've spent most of the past 15+ years at a desk job, so this summer job will either kill me or get me into shape really fast. That's one of the benefits; it beats paying to walk on some treadmill in a climate controlled building while starting at a wall or TV. Most of my work is that of a farm hand. I've seen more than enough hay and grass clippings, and have discovered that I don't much enjoy scraping and painting a shed in the direct sun. But I can always take a break, grab my water, and go for a stroll to talk to some musk ox. Sometimes, like today, I even spend all morning working around the musk ox, picking up poop, feeding, watering, and even herading groups around. These pics are fresh from today: www.bodiless.org/mof/mof.htm I'm off Tue and Wed, so I'll catch up on posts then and can make the weekly chat. Take care, all, and hope you're enjoying your summer days at work too. p.s. Sometimes it rains, and sometimes we get wet. But sometimes we just pick Q.

Koffee Well glad to hear from you. It was a nice surprise. Yes working office jobs can make you be out of shape and you not getting any younger lol But some of it seems interesting. The pics were great. Thanks for sharing. We be glad to see you at chat. And who knows you may be able to play the game and keep Mindy on her toes. LOL Well take care and have fun.

Hey there! Those are some cool pictures and I'm sure you will get into shape faster than you think! I am also a farm hand, but a agro farm hand. SO I get to pick rocks in 80 degree weather in direct sunlight out of the fields, drive tractors with no opening windows and no A/C. The worst is carrying the soy bean & corn bags around. They get too heavy after a day! I'm glad you are doing well, at least we can take a break when we want! But you have animals to talk to, the soybeans and corn don't really have nothing to say. Just remember lots of water and wear sunscreen and a hat, helps stay cool a bit more Hope you keep doing well!

Hi all... sorry I missed the chat on Wed. Tue and Wed were supposed to be my days off, but the hay was ready, so off to work it was. It was my first time haying ever... from 4pm to midnight both days. (Taking advantage of the lots of light we still have.) We got about 1500-1600 bales... a desk job never prepared me for that! We need another 500, but that will be later on (second cut). At least they gave me the next two days off.

Hey there Koffee! Glad you are still hangin in there! Can you imagine bailing and collecting hay down here in Southern Canada with a humidity of 61% and temperatures of 88 and up. Hay has to get done around here in the day time, so that sucks big time! Always very hot days those are, and long! I hope you didn't get scratched up too bad, and I'm sure your hands are feeling pretty good right now. I can remember when I was a kid I wanted to help with hay. I was wearing shorts and my brothers let me try and lift some bales. Well needless to say the strings cut my hands and I was all scratched up. Glad you are still doing well though, I'm sure you've found muslces you didn't even know existed! Hope to see you at chat next week

It was hot (for here - upper 70's) and strong direct sun on day two. That made it pretty awful at times, but the days went well. The next morning wasn't so great... I'm still sore, especially my hands. I had proper gloves, so no string burns or cuts... they are just real sore. I'm not experienced, but I knew enough to wear long pants and a light-colored long-sleve shirt. I even got a field promotion... stacked the pickup truck for the last two loads. Before that, I was tossing. p.s. We had to get it done in the day time too... but sunset wasn't until after 11pm. p.p.s. I bought a 1-gal pump sprayer today, so I can save my tired hands from that spray bottle I was using for Chica.
