I have recently begun a roach breeding project to feed my tarantula and toads. My tarantula won't run the risk of catching nematodes from crickets and I just can't afford to keep buying crickets for my toads so I began this. I had one question though. Would it be better to feed roaches that are freshly molted to the toads? This would prevent impaction I think because hissing roaches have fairly tough exoskeletons.

i cant comment on toads but we feed freshly shed thingyroaches to some of our lizards for the same reason im not sure if its myth or truth about the shell being softer when freshly shed as i dont tend to touch them but we have had ill effects from it

The smaller hissing thingyroaches are ok to feed with the shell, their exoskeletons aren't as tuff. I have a breeding colony of hissing thingyroachs for my dragons, but I dont feed the adult thingyroaches, I just breed them for the babies. I think you should be fine with feeding the thingyroach with the shell still on it, but if it is molted, then that would be the best.

i breed lobster and giant deathhead roaches.....both are great imo used to breed hissing but my lizards wouldn't eat them lol i just put them in as they are if moulted its a bonus....but i haven't had no impaction case yet......must be lucky i suppose lee
