After all the hard work we are going to have Winston euthanized tomorrow afternoon. We have worked very hard over the past 6 weeks to get him better. The vet confirmed this afternoon that he has a broken coffin bone and a bone infection. They have recommended that he be put down because he will not recover. After 2 different vets failed to properly treat or diagnose Winston we had called a horse sanctuary Tiera Madre. They asked us to bring Winston there to rehabilitate him. The vets there were able to accurately diagnose him and make the recommendation to have him euthanized. I appreciate the words of encouragement from people here on my other thread. My wife and I are very upset having to do this. But we really feel that it's in his best interest because of the pain he is in every day. We don't want him suffering anymore. My buddy Winston

Oh man...what horrible news. I am SO sorry for all of you. Winston does not deserve this. Poor boy. I know it's the best thing for him, but people's ignorance and lack of concern make me so angry...>:-(
You went above and beyond for him and no one can fault you for the tough call and recommendation needed for this gentle soul.

I am very saddened to hear this news. I myself have had to put a horse down one of our own. But he was older, it was still a hard thing to do. I was young when it happened and I was so mad at my parents because they had him hauled away for meat or glue or something. It was more my dad's decision than my moms as my dad hates horses. They are a waste of time to him.
It is a really sad ending to a totally avoidable story. I know you did all you could for Winston and I'm sure he is aware of that. It is a tough decision to make but your right he doesn't need to be in pain everyday.
We all stand behind you in your decision, and its too bad that some stupid person's idoitness caused all of this. At least you did the best you could and gave him the best care. That is what matters! You made his life as happy as you could.
I was thinking of you guys when I went to look at a horse for my cousin on Sunday. He ended up buying the horse today. I am going to help take care of it and your posting about Winston helped me remember one of the many dreams I did have in life. So I will thank you for that.
Keeping you in my thoughts in this hard time,
Stephanie

Thanks for the kind words. At the end he was just losing tons of weight and nothing we did helped. The vet says that he had so much arthritis and infection in the leg that there wasn't really anything we could do. He also said that the arthritis and infection were most likely there before we even got the horse. So the break was due to his leg being weak to begin with. So I blame the woman we adopted Winston from and then the idiot that did god knows what with him before we got him back.
