does anyone else use this as a source of protien for their igs? I was told about it when I asked JBinns about diet and animals protien. I now use it as a salad enhancer and it seems to be working out really well.

Nicole When I became diabetic I did a lot of studying of nutrition and I do know that for humans rice and beans form a complete protein. Rice by itself and beans by themselves only contain certain protein amino acids but combined have all the protein amino acids needed. It is one way a vegetarian can make sure to get the complete protein they need. And given that iguanas are basically vegetarians I would think it would work for them also. There are also other combinations of certain grains and vegetables that will accomplish this goal. In a lot of 3rd world countries these are used to feed people. Most likely for this reason as well that they keep well dry. Most likely they do have things in them not good for an iguana. But most of what we feed them do have a certain amount of something in it that is not good. The thing is to feed them a variety of things in the right proportions. So I would have no doubt that rice and beans could be a part of their diet and that they would do very well on it like many humans have. I have not used it on a regular basis for them but have given it to them occasionally (but brown rice). Marie

John suggested that 16 bean mix that goya puts out---along with some brown rice---cooked thoroughly and bagged for individual meals...then frozen. I thaw it as needed and sometimes heat it a dab in the bag to provide the warmth necessary to sort of steam the mixture to give it some softness. I use it as someone would use croutons in a human salad. Mix it in their greens and it sort of balances out the whole thing. It's even better when mixed with pellets like zoomed or monster diet or some iguana dust as a dressing

Where do you get this goya brand name? In Canada we have A&P, Zhers and some other small chains. Which one would it likely be at?
So what kind of beans are in it just incase I can't find that brand.

I have bought it in : a& p, shopright and pathmark. I have never not seen it. If you ave a Goya section (usually in an ethnic aisle) you will see the bean mixture
